SOL CEO optimistic on 2H demand
solar panels may be in short supply in Q3
Previously both SOL and JKS came up with 5-7GW demand for China in 2012. So this is not quite a surprise as Li has been bullish on China this year. He cited the project negotiation activities in the provinces like GanSu, NingXia. Also he forecast a short supply of panels by Q3 2012.
One commented on Li's enthusiasm, saying Li may be too optimistic and the demand may only reach 4GW.
Of course, Li was the solar CEO of year 2011 and he correctly forecast the year end low module ASP more than half year earlier. Everyone should respect his opinion.
I am on the more conservative side - talks are talks and may not translate into real projects at 2H. The formidable grid-tie-in barrier still exists if not more pronounced as wind power is competing for the same grid resources. For the self-usage in the east-central where electricity is in short supply, there are actual technology difficulties for the owners who wanna use the PV-generated electricity as it is not stable.
In the next few years, these kinks may be worked out and PV may be as popular as the solar water heaters.
