Oct. 30th 2012, Yingda Taihe Property Insurance Company (YDPIC), Aon-COFCO Insurance Brokers and SOLARZOOM Jointly held a news conference and announced that YDPIC had formally launched the SolarSafe product, a 25-year Product Warranty & Indemnity Liability Insurance against Excessive Loss of Output of Solar PV Modules.
YDPIC is 100% held by State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). SGCC is the largest electric utilities company in the world. It transmits and distributes power in China. The company is the seventh-largest in the world, according to the 2011 Fortune Global 500 ranking.
Aon-COFCO is the joint-venture between Aon (NYSE: AON) and COFCO, two Fortune 500 companies, according to the 2011 Fortune Global 500 ranking. Aon is the world’s leading insurance broker with over 500 offices in more than 200 countries.
The SolarSafe product, developed by Aon-COFCO and written by YDPIC, is the first and the only available solution in China, and backs up the limited warranty liability of manufacturers in China, so that even if insured manufacturers go bankrupt, final users could still get indemnity from insurance companies. The entire claims process is handled by Aon’s global networks to ensure the legal and long-term interests of worldwide clients.
Linuo Solar Group has become the first policyholder that provides SolarSafe coverage to its clients worldwide.
“We protect our clients by developing our insurance solutions in China, since buying an overseas insurance policy is always risky and a headache for manufacturers in China,” said the General Manager of SGCC. He also confirmed that “backed up by SGCC Group, our financial strength is trustable and reliable in the long term.”
“Aon will help clients worldwide to understand the product and build up confidence,” said Ms. Clare Wu, CEO of Aon China. She added, “This is the best solution that clients could find at present and it will become perfect as more and more clients come to use it.”
“We assume that at the end of 2015, over 80% manufacturers in China will have SolarSafe cover,” said Leo Xiang, the project leader and director of Aon-COFCO Renewable Energy Department.
