explo 706 Report post Posted October 30, 2013 Thanks for the input sleepy. Might have to check them out since they make money on their panels, which are the best by the way, but I'm sensitive to valuation too, so I doubt I'll buy them. Although SPWR leads on product quality, high valuation bets are still a bit of gamble for me in this ever changing industry.
Guest CrouchingTiger Report post Posted October 30, 2013 I could be wrong, because from what I understand their revenue and EPS can swing wildly from one quarter to the next depending on how their monster power plant construction milestones are reached. As these certain milestones are reached revenue gets recognized. Kind of like with CSIQ and its power plant sales, only that SPWR recognizes revenue in chunks instead of all at once. They are also wrapping up their big CVSP project (multi-hundred MW) right about now, so I don't know if 2014 numbers will be hurt because of this. The only one that has some control of this reporting is SPWR itself. So hopefully the disaster reaction from last Q would prepare them for a nice report. Guest sleepyhead Report post Posted October 30, 2013 The only one that has some control of this reporting is SPWR itself. So hopefully the disaster reaction from last Q would prepare them for a nice report. The market wants to see where the growth is going to come from. They didn't have an answer last time, so they got pummeled. They better have an answer this time.

Guest Norse Report post Posted October 30, 2013 Yup odyd, might this result in the chinese rally higher than SPWR?
Pop2mollys 417 Report post Posted October 30, 2013 This is beautiful but Q4 does not look that hot. Maybe because they don't have a big presence in china which is surging right now as we enter Q4...

sunnysky 905 Report post Posted October 30, 2013 ==> COST REDUCTION and CELL EFFICIENCY "Operationally, we beat our cost reduction goals for the quarter while improving overall equipment effectiveness and average solar cell conversion efficiency. ==> EXPANSION Due to strong demand for our unique, cost effective, high efficiency products, we have made the strategic decision to expand our solar cell manufacturing capacity by more than 25 percent. SunPower's planned 350-megawatts (MW) expansion will produce our next generation, step-reduced cell technology with initial silicon starting in early 2015. This will bring our total cell capacity to more than 1.8-gigawatts (GW) when fully ramped.
pg6solar 113 Report post Posted October 30, 2013 but Q4 does not look that hot. Compared to what they just reported for Q3, you put it too mildly.

Guest sleepyhead Report post Posted October 30, 2013 This is beautiful but Q4 does not look that hot. Go back to Q2 report and you will see that Q3 guidance was worse than Q4 guidance. They are the biggest sandbaggers, always beat analyst EPS consensus by 100%.
hellosolar 38 Report post Posted October 30, 2013 SPWR has a very good Q3, but Q4 doesn't look that impressive.

Makan 72 Report post Posted October 30, 2013 Revenue and MW outlook quite in line. Margins shrinking. We could interpret this as Chinese modules are catching up in terms of quality, so Sunpower cannot sell as overpriced as they have done in the past? Guest Xeloris Report post Posted October 30, 2013 Afterhours movement is a little disappointing, I guess as mentioned the Q4 guidance may have an impact here
dydo 1,560 Report post Posted October 30, 2013 So Q4 is a lot lower than results of Q3. I am curious how market will react to it. Go back to Q2 report and you will see that Q3 guidance was worse than Q4 guidance. They are the biggest sandbaggers, always beat analyst EPS consensus by 100%. perhaps but market had took a chunk out of it. Q4 has to be a growth q for Chinese. pg6solar 113 Report post Posted October 30, 2013 SPWR said that FY13 shipments are expected to be around 1GW. YGE, by some optimistic expectations, may ship as much as 1GW in 13Q4 alone. Think about that.

pg6solar 113 Report post Posted October 30, 2013 As per SPWR, they expect strong demand into q4 and 2014 with stayable (and maybe even improving) ASP. Should be good for CN solars too.
