Chinese Solar Module Exports Reach New Highs in 9 Months of 2014

Expectations for module exports for the entire 2014 forecast 19.1GW versus 16.5GW delivered during 2013, recording 15.5% growth.


SHANGHAI, China, AIRDRIE, Alberta, November 27th, 2014---SPVInvestor Research Inc. released the CEDR report for September 2014 earlier this month, confirming another high volume quarter of exported modules from China. Third quarter 2014 module export deliveries are 19% higher than the comparable period in 2013. Overall volume in the first nine months of the year was a 14.78GW, 14.8% larger than 2013.

Expectations for module exports for the entire 2014 forecast 19.1GW versus 16.5GW delivered during 2013, recording 15.5% growth.

Top destinations during nine months of the 2014 included: Japan 5.45GW, USA at 2.9GW and the EU at 2.5GW with the UK being the leading recipient on the European continent. Australia has seen 589MW and India around 447MW of deliveries. Chile received 293MW and South Africa 270MW for the year-to-date period, ending on September 30th, 2014.

The nine-months export volume leader is Trina Solar Limited (ADR)(NYSE: TSL) with 1.7GW export deliveries to 47 destinations with the US being the largest, at 714MW, followed by Japan and UK. Fourth country on the list was Australia at 51MW.

In the second place is Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ), with 1.6GW of exports not including production from its location in Ontario, Canada. Canadian delivered to 54 destinations, with the US topping the list at 620MW, followed by Japan and ports of Holland, which suggests also the UK, as the third largest destination. India was number four destination with 61MW.

Yingli Green Energy Hold. Co. Ltd. (ADR)(NYSE: YGE) a global volume leader from 2013, had taken only third place among top exporters. The company has delivered to 85 global locations, taking the title of the first mover in many of them. Yingli’s export deliveries amounted to 1.5GW with Japan being a leading destination at 462MW, followed by the US and the UK. Fourth destination for Yingli was Algeria with 77MW delivered there so far this year.

JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (ADR)(NASDAQ: JASO) took fourth place with overall volume of 1.06GW and the same roster of top- three countries, Japan, USA and UK. The fourth country on the list was Guatemala with 37MW. The company delivered to 29 global destinations.

Overall, 7 US-listed Chinese companies, delivered 8.4GW of modules to 112 global destinations. In addition to already mentioned four volume leaders, the list includes JinkoSolar, Hanwha SolarOne and ReneSola. The group represents 57% of the overall Chinese exports based on CEDR Reporting.

Among top 5 exporters (JinkoSolar being fifth) four are also profitable. The list includes Canadian Solar, JinkoSolar, JA Solar and Trina Solar.
