Google Reaps Tax Breaks in $1.4 Billion Renewable Energy Bet

http://www.renewable...ble-energy-bet?

SAN FRANCISCO -- On a Northern California farm where silage for animal feed once grew, Google Inc. is generating power from more than 100,000 solar panels to heat nearby homes — and double down on an area of energy many investors shun.

The Galt solar farm, 20 miles south of Sacramento, is one of 15 alternative energy projects that Google has funded since 2010 as part of a more than $1.4 billion investment in clean power production. That makes the Internet search giant the biggest backer of U.S. alternative energy projects over that stretch, excluding financial institutions and utilities, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance.

...

“More projects can get done when the costs come down,” said Michael Metzner, chief financial officer of Recurrent. “We can now provide solar power at costs that are quickly approaching those of conventional energy.”

New Japan FIT Should Support High Module Prices Globally - Analyst (CSIQ) (FSLR) (SPWR)

Analyst Colin Rusch noted that Japan's FIT rates, which go into effect on April 1, 2014, shouldn't lead to an increase in module sales n Japan given the backlog of systems approved for historical FIT rates as well as our view that new FIT rates will continue to support the highest module prices around the globe. We would expect solar stocks to see some benefit as risk is reduced to Japanese demand with the clarity on these rates.

Quite bullish. Nice to see some analysts getting excited about this case too.

Crimea is RE 'wake-up call' – Garrad

http://www.rechargen...cle1354791.ece?

The crisis in Crimea shows how dependent on fossil fuel imports Europe has become – a situation the EU could help to ease by encouraging renewables via an ambitious 2030 target, said European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) president Andrew Garrad.

Yeah this was my thinking when I saw the crimea crisis. Energy security from decentralized energy is a big deal.

Up All Night: US Senate To Address Climate Change Options

http://www.renewable...change-options?

The Senate Climate Action Task Force was formed in January, as a "wake-up call" by Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) to seek action inside & outside Congress, and "change the minds around here" to "the catastrophe that's unfolding before our eyes," Boxer said then. "Our goal is to wake up Congress."

Nevertheless, renewable energy is likely to be a big talking point, especially if conversations move into tax reforms, energy efficiency, strengthening state renewable portfolio standards (or even forging a national RPS), ways to incentivize renewables even more, or even some version of a carbon tax.

"We're going to show the growing number of Senators who are committed to working together to confront climate change," pledged Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii). Offered Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.): "All you have to do is look at China to see what happens to your country when you throw the environment under the bus."

Nice sunny, might see some good news coming out of this in morning. Article last week talked about how china and US talked about teaming up to tackle climate change. If only they could set a worldwide team effort to push solar even harder.

Just sounds Ironic that the US wants to  "team up" and tackle climate change with all these protectionist measures against china that would actually help them getting cost effective panels to do so....  at a profit.

I think that before renewable, US will push to explore more LNG and to find/build ways to export it to EU. Its in US' national security interests to gradually free EU from Russia's dependency. All the renewable talk is nice, but one can't export solar energy to EU, right?

Sounds like JKS spin off imminent. I guess the jury is still out whether this is good or bad for shareholders.

I know there was a heavy debate on here before but I trust JKS will look out for their shareholders.

On one hand you have Japanese tariff on the other Suntech expanding to 3.5GW

http://solar.ofweek....0-28785823.html

Is Shunfeng buying Suntech or this is something else?

It is truly difficult to navigate through the landscape of confusion and rumor.

This is still about Jinko CEO talking about the plan when asked by reporters recently, not any indication a major progress has been made.

"When we do have a spin-off listing of the power plant business, is currently in the process of doing concrete work in preparation." Deputies, Jinko Solar Co., Ltd. CEO Chen Kangping accept the "Economic Information Daily" reporters on March 10.

Trust me - there is nothing new here.

According to the plan, the kickoff time is Q3 and IPO is expected to be around year-end or early 2015.
