China listed solars didn't get memo to sell off

https://solarpvinvestor.com/solar-universe/china-index

Funny though Taiwan solars all down...

I just wonder if market might think that since china is now sitting down and talking to Europe about tariffs that they might strike a deal. How about Chinese imposes no poly tariffs and Europe no tariffs at all? Simple...

So the EU is giving China until June 7th to strike a deal. Perhaps this explains the optimism? The article is dated Feb. 10:33 EST, so it wasn't out during today's market hours.

Seems wise... negotiate. The last thing we need is less demand due to artificially higher prices.

Being that Europe gave China till May to sit down and talk makes me think they will negotiate good terms for The entire industry.... Read an article that mentions they have been meeting already to work on a deal.

This is quite unusual and different from what the US had done.

EU as a entity is calling on China, country, to negotiate against tariffs EU wants to implement against individual companies or even the industry. It sounds to me as EU is not ready to flip the switch off, so they are looking for an avenue to find middle ground, instead of being faced with some goofy SolarWorld holding cards in the multi billion dollar trade with China.
Certainly delay in the poly debacle is also a convenience for both sides if things got too advanced and strong response would be needed.
As we learned from Trina, the whole tariff in China, lost its edge which was supposedly take off the heads of tier-1 companies. The most vulnerable YGE is already having a viable solution to its "only" import suppliers in a case of the tariff, so non event for Wackers and OCIs, maybe looking more like beatings for RECs and Hemlocks. If there is one to be made an example of is the US. It would be ironic, if sum of both actions ended up as a zero sum game for both regions, and having the US spend years trying to catch up on cost advantages. However, in spite of itself, USA will receive its benefits from solar growth. I imagine that within 18 months when petitioner dies (SW) its claims will go to the grave with it. A legacy, which appears well wasted already today.

What absolutely great news for the global solar industry!

Merkel said way back last year when this first started that they were going to work hard to come to some agreement, and be the example of how these things should be settled. I think the biggest hindrance so far has been the leadership changeover in China. Can't remember when that becomes official, but it seems like the EU is giving China enough time to work thru this...China must have given some assurances that they want to settle this and for some time to get things in order.

Although you never know what kind of crazy things politicians will end up doing, it seems obvious to me that both sides want to come up with a solution that's fair for everyone without affecting trade or trade relations (Plain and Simple, the EU can't afford this battle right now, and China I'm sure doesn't want any trouble either...and probably wouldn't mind sticking it to the US).

This could lead to the entire global market being tariff-free...except the US, which ironically is supposed to be the place of free trade. And it will only end up hurting many US companies....

Again, what GREAT news!

Just for some humor, this is from a post last Sept. on Yahoo on this subject;

But I also don't think it's just coincidence, if you put all the pieces of the puzzle together, that the large companies that need continued support, all just announced production cuts, and this also seems to be pivoted around the Merkel visit. I think the conversation between Merkel and Wen went something like this;

Wen; This dumping investigation has to stop, or we don't help you out of your financial mess.
Merkel; You've got to find a way to squeeze out excess capacity, and I'll talk to the EU Commission.
Wen; Done, we'll have a "talk" with the Tier-1's & 2's we want to survive, and cut-off the lifelines to the rest.
Merkel; Done...wow that was easy, let's shake on it...what's for dinner?
Wen; Stupid American politicians...they wouldn't even talk to us...look at all the business we're going to send your way now instead of theirs...
Merkel; Yea...stupid American politicians...but it should all be over in a couple months...maybe they'll talk then.
