"The Hawaii-based solar company Hoku also filed for bankruptcy protection, reports Renewable Energy World.
Hoku owes up to $1 billion to creditors and had to cancel building a manufacturing plant in Idaho, which had already been delayed several years."

Interesting Comment Posted under that article
Sunpower panels are cadillacs, no doubt about it. But you need a workhorse not a luxury car. Know this: You're buying a commodity to reduce your electric bill, not a lifestyle. Comparable sized Sunpower systems (5kW for example) vs. almost any other 5 kW system will produce almost identical yearly output on your roof. But....the Sunpower system will cost about 20% more (something like $5000) in CA). Same bottom line output - higher cost. Doesn't sound financially efficient to me. The Sunpower efficiency claim mostly comes from the fact that Sunpower panels are about 20% PHYSICALLY SMALLER. Physical size has little to do with output. Systems that use other good quality panels are larger, less expensive and have virtually the same output as Sunpower systems for the same electrical size, location, orientation and load. All quality panels, Sunpower and everyone else, carry long warranties so that probably isn't much of an issue. You'll have moved or be dead by the time the panels fail. Sunpower's possible advantage is where you have limited space, but that may mean that your're oversizing your system, a common mistake vendor's are only too happy to lead you into. Remember, vendors make money by putting solar equipment on your roof - not saving you money. Some are honest - some are crooks. People are ignorant when it comes to this business. Don't be fooled by bogus claims. Do your homeowner. Get multiple quotes. Caveat Emptor !

Hoku Files for Chapter 7 With Unfinished Polysilicon Plant
http://online.wsj.co...4257413020.html
Renewable-energy company Hoku Corp. filed for bankruptcy liquidation in Idaho, where it struggled to find money to finish a $700 million polysilicon plant after the price for that solar panel ingredient collapsed in a global oversupply. The plant, which was designed to produce 4,000 tons of polysilicon a year, struggled with expenses and could cost nearly twice its original $410 million price tag to complete, according to the company's latest quarterly filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. By the end of 2011, Hoku had spent at least $630 million on the plant's construction. The company began building the plant in May 2007...
The more I read about the difficulties, costs and timelines companies are having in building a poly plant, the more impress I am with Renesola's abilities in building their poly plant.

Air Pollution Cuts Life Expectancy By 5.5 Years In China - Study
Maybe they should think of their people and mothball every coal plant and think of other clean renewable energy sources. They have the money and the best industry in the world creating GWs and GWs of energy, most of that for the outside of China world. During the Olympics when China asked all the industrial polluters to shut down, it was like being in a different clean better world. It was night and day. Then the olympics were done and the pollution was back again. I hoped at the time that the Chinese having seen what their cities could be like that they would never want to go back to that filthy grey yellow polluting air. Maybe one day...

Boss,
Odyd asked that all general "Solar News, Analysis" to be posted under one thread per day. For example for today it's the one named "June 10th Daily News". Of course if the news item fits in a specific category you can still use that.
On a comment for the 438GW for the next 7 years, that's 16% yearly growth with 38GW this year and 93GW in 2020.
