Board Activity

I added interesting plugin into your user profile. It is called Board activity. It shows the concentration of your posts in specific forums. Pretty neat thing. Check it out. Click on anyone's id to see where they are most active.

Odyd, is it possible the header of the board that has "SolarPVInvestor Forums" and "Solar PV Investor" that when you click on the "SolarPVInvestor Forums" one you go to the forums (like you are now), but when you click on "Solar PV Investor" you go to the main SolarPVInvestor site?? It will make it a breeze to navigate back and forth plus it makes sense.

Are you referring to main site?
Link "Forum" brings you to the forums here?
Are you thinking about logo? Unfortunately I cannot link the logo to the site.
I am not sure if I am answering your questions.

I'm talking about the Logo header of the forums (background in red). That header has 2 main items (well it has the search thread too but I'm talking about the 2 logos. When you click anywhere on the red background it defaults to the forums. So I was asking if it's possible when you click on the "Solar" with 2nd line "PV Investor", that it can take you to the main site https://solarpvinvestor.com/index.php

I think if I read you correctly, you don't have any control of the logo header to put individual "hot" areas that when you click they'll take you to different places, right?

Yes Larry can't get that logo to take you to the site. I will see if I can do something more with it.

Board Activity

To keep the board clean and engaged , as per rules members are required to post at least one post to validate their membership. Anyone is allowed to read of course, but there are privileges for members like attachments pictures etc.
Be aware that regardless of your registration date those who are members but have not posted a single post will be deleted on March 1st, 2013, at 18:00 PM MST. There is no point to have disk occupied by empty ids.
I appreciate everyone's understanding and happy posting.

I lurk and don't have much to add, but I am extremely grateful to see new posts upon logging in :)!

I've moved around the solar sector for the better part of 6 years. Right now I am in CSIQ ~3, SOL~2, and FSLR ~22 at a ratio of about 25/25/50. I recently re balanced CSIQ and FSLR to start my position in SOL based largely on the enthusiasm here. I am a bit nervous about FSLR earnings tomorrow, at the very least they will be interesting.

I'll see if I can't chime in more frequently. I'm a good critic. Thanks!

Thanks and welcome.
Let me share an observation with you. This is like anything else in the world of internet a place to share views and hardly to take advice from, where hardly is a nice statement for never. I am a bit confused about say "popularity" of SOL. A lot of people call it pumping and it is easy to induce the state of it on the board with 60 plus members. This is why I also want people's input, not just create ids for nothing. This is a free board, meaning anything solar goes but it is becoming extremely obvious with every single thread turning eventually into a homily for SOL. We all get it, a lot of people here like the company, but enough already with divine status.
So I make a commitment to all. One reference to SOL in another thread but "ReneSola" I will delete the post, no warning , gone. This includes general discussion board. If I read again about how poly is going up and SOL is to benefit from it one more time, the fate is the same. I promise that I will never say anything about other company on "ReneSola" thread and the same applies to others.
Starting from now 11:08 MST.

Thank you welcome, I hope you can also contribute, which makes all the fun. We do not have much JA following and the company is very interesting, so please do not hesitate to add your two cents.
Everyone please use report buttons if required moderation of the board. Help me out. If you are interested in becoming a moderator of specific board PM me. The rules from yesterday are in force in addition to general rules.

Odyd, I hope you are not singling out SOL but you referring to ALL of them. And I'm talking about the general discussion board. The specific board for each solar I get, but for the general discussion boards it does not make much sense. IMO you may want to rethink this rule as I already I'm seeing messages that under your rule should be deleted.

Larry, I am singling out SOL as an example how good things go bad in hurry. General discussion board is exactly for everything, which is not covered in "individual" topics. If the subject is polysilicon, I do not see a reason to involve any other company. You can go to specific company pricing and link the polysilicon for details of this.

Topics like best modules could be in many places. If you feel that ReneSola has the best module, put in the ReneSola forum. If the rating is a topic of the discussion, mono modules are 300MW on cell structure etc. than it can be a general discussion. This is not that hard. If you intent to write about the company, using general terms, it still belongs in the thread for that company. Send me report what does not belong in your opinion and I remove it. Trust me it will add value at the end.

I don't want to remove any. I think it adds to the general discussion. But I can see how in a specific solar board you would not want any other solar (for example Nano's message in the CSIQ board yesterday about the Japanese market included and bashfully so, SOL). So I assume under your new rules that message and thread would have been deleted, correct?

Imho this goes a bit too far. Is it the goal to have 13 pumping sections where you can only post positive things about the companies and not mention their peers?

Any assessment of cost, technology, or market presence of a given company only makes sense in comparison with peers. If Someone on a SOL thread claims that SOL has an efficiency edge with 260W modules and I answer that SPWR is more efficient why should my posting be deleted? It just reduces the richness of the discussion.

I know that it's annoying to have pumping and bashing posts but imho applying stiff content rules can do more harm than good.

A little harsh your rules. That is the reason we left yahoo board.

I'd say some regulations will be good to avoid pumping/dumping domination but may be not such strong.

odyd, when possible I think you can move whole threads if it seems they have digressed to a topic that belongs better elsewhere. If partial thread move is technically possible that might be a solution sometimes, but that question is more complicated.

Deleting posts because of comparitive discussions becomes very problematic in my opinion. People tend to digress in discussions and I think it is unrealistic to expect that they won't.

Intentional systematic off-topic disruption to pump/bash favourite names should be identified and have consequences though.

Well, I expect logic to be used when someone types the post. I in fact believe so much in purpose of typing a message that nothing in it is left to chance. If you write about SOL in ReneSola superiority over CSIQ I do not have an issue with it, I do if you do it on the CSIQ board.

A little harsh your rules. That is the reason we left yahoo board.

You are entitled to the opinion, I manage this board. If asking people to stop spamming on their choices allover the place is harsh, then so be it.

@Klothilde, you smart enough to figure out what is asked here. Trust me I will not delete the post about someone saying that SOL has A and someone else has B, if the post is on ReneSola forum. But if somoene said that SOL modules were blessed by Pope on CSIQ forum, I will act on it.

Larry, you found perfect example. The rules I decided to follow were called after this post was made. I am not going to delete anything prior.

Work with me. Nobody is a pumper here. so what is the issue, right?

explo, I don’t think the intent is to ban anyone from ever mentioning a company’s name when it’s used in the general discussion of topics. But I think you see what’s been going on, and I agree with Odyd on the need to clean it up. Just take a quick look at the general discussion board topics and postings. I see endless “Big winner would be SOL...”, and “it will be huge news for Renesola and bad news for companies like CSIQ”, over and over on the general discussion board and on other boards. These should all be on the SOL thread. Like Odyd said...we all get it! And this is just one of many issues going on.

This was meant to be a respectful forum of knowledge exchange (and we have a lot of good posters here), not the second coming of Yahoo...Like some Judge or Senator or someone once said; “I can’t define porn, but I know it when I see it...”

You all know darn well Odyd embraces free speech and discussion, and I think most of you also see what’s been going on and would agree it needs to be cleaned-up...and he is also asking for everyone to help keep this a very powerful yet respectful discussion forum, that attract some very knowledgeable people that help us stay ahead of the rest of the investing community...

I stand 100% behind his effort to clean up his own forum...

Nano, i agree that we should keep thing clean and abuse free (and there's room to improve here), but it seems unrealistic to expect discussions not becoming comparative and digressive. The reason things often digress into comparing with SOL, CSIQ and TSL is because these seem to lead in certain aspects according to many posters here. Same phenomenon as when a consumer electronics company might be compared to AAPL. To be constructive we should think of possible new topic categories that seem to frequently pollute other topics. Maybe one for polysilicon (always a hot pv topic) and one for tariffs.
